In Case You Don’t Like Scary Things…

Halloween is almost here and it seems like everywhere we look there's an abundance of ghosts, skeletons, cobwebs, and other creepy, spooky things. While scary works for some, there are others (okay, one or two of us) who prefer to skip the thrilling part of Halloween and go straight for the magic, candy, and dress up. So if you're like a few of the members of Team Fierce Reads and need a good book to reflect your mood, pick up one of these non-scary books to help you enjoy the season.

For fans of mystery, magic, and more:

Wild Beauty by Anna-Marie McLemore

For nearly a century, the Nomeolvides women have tended the grounds of La Pradera, the lush estate gardens that enchant guests from around the world. They’ve also hidden a tragic legacy: if they fall in love too deeply, their lovers vanish. But then, after generations of vanishings, a strange boy appears in the gardens.

For fans of magic and imagination:

Pashmina by Nidhi Chanani

For Pri, her mother's homeland can only exist in her imagination. That is, until she find a mysterious pashmina tucked away in a forgotten suitcase. When she wraps herself in it, she is transported to a place more vivid and colorful than any guidebook or Bollywood film. But is this the real India? And what is that shadow lurking in the background? To learn the truth, Pri must travel farther than she’s ever dared and find the family she never knew.

For anyone who's ever wondered "what if?":

In Some Other Life
 by Jessica Brody

It seems it was the right choice but then Kennedy's world is shattered, she wonders if maybe her life would have been better if she'd made the other choice. As fate would have it, she's about to find out.

The very next day, Kennedy falls and hits her head and mysteriously awakes as a student at the Windsor Academy. But as she navigates her new world, she starts to wonder whether this alternate version of herself really is as happy as everyone seems to believe.

For fans of swoony books that actually start on Halloween:
