Day 1: January 26th Chapters 1-5

Welcome to Visidia! Meet Amora Montara, next in line to take over the throne and general badass enjoying a day out sailing with her father. They’re talking about suitors, including Amora’s betrothed, Ferrick, and the demonstration Amora will have to perform that evening to prove herself as a rightful heir to her people. In her heart, Amora is a free spirit who just wants to sail every day, but she loves her people and must perform her duty. buy Synthroid generic buyinfoblo.com over the counter
… We interrupt this recap for a brief message from the Visidia Chamber of Commerce: Our kingdom is made up of seven islands, each with a unique magic.
  • The capital, Arida: Soul magic
  • Mornute: Enchantment magic
  • Valuka: Elemental magic
  • Kerost: Time magic
  • Suntosu: Restoration magic
  • Curmana: Mind magic
  • Zudoh: Curse magic (but we don’t talk to them because they’re #Banished).
In Arida, people have the ability to choose their magic, with the exception of soul magic. Only people of royal blood can practice soul magic. You see, years ago an evil monster tricked people into practicing multiple magics, then used soul magic to kill them as they became greedier and greedier.  In comes Cato Montara who strikes a deal with the beast: If he can convince everyone to be content with one magic, then the beast would relinquish soul magic to Cato and leave Visidia alone. Cato convinced the people and vanquished the beast with a knife, binding soul magic to the Montara line forever. That’s why people can only learn one magic and why only the Montaras can harness soul magic. … And now back to our regularly scheduled programming: Amora is getting ready for her ceremony when she overhears her father chatting with key advisors. There seems to be discontent within the kingdom, particularly Kerost, and an uprising led by a mysterious man named Kaven. Amora begs her father for more information, but he remains vague, telling her she’s not ready yet. And if that wasn’t enough to distract you from the biggest performance of your life, Amora finds out that her aunt (AKA the only other royal next in line capable of wielding soul magic) has accidentally picked another magic, basically meaning Amora is the only hope #NoPressure. buy albuterol generic buyinfoblo.com over the counter Soul magic works in two ways: You can read souls, as well as end a soul through death. The second part is pretty gruesome, as it’s based on equivalent exchange. If Amora wants to hurt someone’s bones, she needs to offer a bone bound by the soul of the person who she wants to use magic on (i.e. someone’s hair). But you need that person’s blood to kill. As part of her demonstration Amora must pick the rotten soul out of a group of prisoners, and then execute them using her magic. Step one, easy peasy. Step two, not so much.  If all the pressure of the day is not enough to deal with Amora loses control of her magic executing the prisoner in the most horrific way possible. As a result, her people are terrified, ordering her to the dungeon. Traitors much... Of course of favorite loyal suitor and her betrothed, Ferrick visits Amora, healing her using his Suntosu magic and letting her know that her father is doing everything possible to set her free. While they’re talking, Bastian Vargas—the supposed son of Valukan Baron Bargas—comes in. Once Ferrick leaves, Bastian tells Amora that he’s there to break her out (plot twist). Her people are going to kill her if she doesn’t flee with him now. It isn't long after this that Amora discovers the truth Bastian isn’t a Valukan but a pirate (*swoon*) from Zudoh (*double swoon*). His people need her help, and is she doesn't join him Kaven’s going to destroy the kingdom. Let this journey begin!

Day 2: January 27th Chapters 6-10

Welcome aboard the Keel Haul, the finest ship with the finest captain in all of Visidia (direct quote from the dashing Bastian, himself) which is somehow capable of sailing with a crew of only Amora and Bastian...suspicious. Looks like Amora has been out of the loop on a lot of what’s going down in the kingdom Bastian fills in Amora about the events happening in the kingdom: The Kers are revolting after a storm wrecked their home. A storm they weren’t able to defend themselves from after the king pulled Valukan elementals from their island after catching wind that the Kers were trying to learn multiple magics. Now, they’re turning to Kaven who’s rallying a rebellion of people who support the use of multiple magics and the end of the Montara reign. But Kaven is power hungry, destroying Zudoh, Bastian’s home, in the process. Bastian wants Amora to team up with him to destroy Kaven and end the rebellion.  buy levothyroxine generic buyinfoblo.com over the counter Before she can answer, SURPRISE! We have a stowaway in the form of everyone’s favorite sweet cinnamon roll, Ferrick. In typical boy fashion, Bastian and Ferrick duel, ending with Ferrick losing a hand—but thank goodness for healing magic, am I right? Amora and a reluctant Ferrick agree to team up with Bastian to take down Kaven and therefore restore the people’s faith in Amora as a ruler. The crew sets sail for Mornute to get information about how to access Zudoh through the protective barrier currently in place around the island.  *Insert the most swoon-worthy flirty banter between Amora and Bastian here*
Meanwhile, actual footage of Ferrick:
Bastian lets Amora know that Keel Haul is a magic ship, which is why it doesn’t need a crew to sail. He also tells her that Kaven stole his magic years ago—something that Amora never thought possible.  While Amora is a natural sailor, poor Ferrick has a bad case of seasickness (but like TBH, it only makes us love him more).  The crew finally makes it to the city of Ikae in Mornute, which is a bit of a party town, not hard to imagine as its main export is alcohol! The trio makes their way to a local pub to find out more information on a mysterious group called the Barracudas. In a not so surprise but also very surprising twist, Bastian lets Amora and Ferrick know that Kaven is the reason why Zudoh was banished from the kingdom dun dun dun. He’s cut them off from all trade and travel, isolating and leaving the people there helpless. Amora vows to do whatever it takes to save the Zudians from Kaven.

Day 3: January 28th Chapters 11-15

The crew finally gets some details about the location of the Barracudas lair. With a drunken Ferrick in tow, whose loose lips along with some tensions in the air cause a full-out bar brawl they force them to make a hasty escape from the pub. While on run spotted across the town square is non-other than Amora's once faithful guard Casem. To lose him and the other guards on their heels, the crew runs into a jewelry shop in town only to find a curse necklace (beetles & buzzing & spiders oh my). As a bonus, they also discover the doorway to the answers they are seeking behind the wall of the jewelry shop--the Barracudas hideout!!! Of course, this talented group of shapeshifting hitmen, pick a new location and doorway to shield their hideout each time—so it's now or never.  Enter Barracuda boss ass bitch AKA Shanty. Who tells our trio that the only way to find their way onto Zudoh's shores is with the help of a mermaid. Because Shanty has all the answers, she tells our heroes just where to find one, on the island of Kerost. But with the heavy guard outside, our heroes are trapped. Luckily for them, they have some Barracuda glamour to transform them. Now three men make their way out onto the streets of Ikae and bypass the guards who are currently looking for a woman and two men. The disguise goes down the toilet quickly though, when the guards on the dock spot the blood running down Amora’s white trousers.  Leave to a lady's monthly friend to make an entrance at the exact wrong time.
But luck is on their side and they make it back to the ship. At the site of the blood, Bastian and Ferrick offer some "not so helpful tips" to Amora about what to do.
After everyone recovers from the simple sight of a period. The journey to Kerost gets underway including a high rope sailing lesson between Bastian and Amora. *Swoon* Once they arrive in Kerost, if the empty city's streets are not enough to cause alarm, the few workers building fast--so fast like you can’t see their hands fast—should be cause for concern. With a little healing from Ferrick and some help rebuilding, the people tell Bastian, Amora, and Ferrick the location of the island's would be wannabe leader, Blarthe. Pretending to be Valukans they enter the casino and meet the con man running the island in the power vacuum of King Audric’s abandonment. But this is no ordinary gambling den, this is the worst game of roulette you can ever play because they don't deal in money, they deal in time, off your life.

Day 4: January 29th Chapters 16-20

In an interesting turn of events: The crew officially meets our favorite man-killer mermaid and literally, everyone is fangirling over her honey voice and lethal good looks.
Blarthe wants to make a trade to sell Vatea after he threatens Amora but she shows him who's in control with a powerful demonstration of her powers.  As they depart Kerost with Vatea, they're forced to fight their way out. With Blarthe's men on their heels, Vataea transforms into her mermaid leaps into the sea, beginning to sing her lethal song. But OMG, any man who hears her falls victim to her spell--that includes Bastian and Ferrick, and the only way to stop Ferrick and Bastian from jumping into a watery grave is for Amora to…KISS THEM!
Tensions are growing now that they've escaped and our beloved Ferrick is pissed that Amora is kissing other men. Since Amora doesn't take crap from anyone, she uses this moment to point out that he was not her choice and he needs to get over it. BURN* As they are finally on their way to Zudoh, it's revealed that Bastian hasn't been home to the island since he was ten, cursed away by Kaven. Poor Bastian if that doesn't suck enough the ship is under attack, again—this time from the mythical monster the Lusca. This is beast and creature of legend is DANGEROUS. We have Bastian struggling for air, Vatea flung into the water to fall prey to the Lusca, Ferrick barely hanging on, and the Keel Haul taking hit after hit! But our girl, Amora is having none of that—even though the Lusca's tentacles are poisonous. With a few hits taken herself, Amora manages to take a dagger and drag it down the Lusca's back but there is no stopping this beast. Using her wits she grabs for the cursed necklace and uses its power to immobilize the Lusca. With the adrenaline starting to wear off, Amora passes out from the poison in her system. What obstacle will she have to face next?!

Day 5: January 30th Chapters 21-25

We can tell Amora is already feeling better because, immediately after waking up, she is looking at Bastian like 👀 And folks, we’re swooning at Bastian’s concern over our death-defiant Princess.  Amora, quick as always, starts to put together some pieces of the puzzle. As it turns out, Bastian and the Keel Haul are bound by cursed soul magic (gasp), meaning that the ship literally holds half of Bastian’s soul. So, whenever the ship gets hit, Bastian feels that pain. And whenever Bastian is hurt, the ship reacts as well. They’re bound together and cannot be separated for long periods of time. Bastian was basically cursed to sail the seas forever.  Bastian tells Amora how Kaven, that devious villain, had learned soul magic (WHICH IS FORBIDDEN!!! Excuse me, sir!!!! Montaras only!!!) and combined it with curse magic in order to control people’s souls and gain more power. And worse, he keeps these people’s magic by wearing the trophies he’s cursed them to—leather bracelets smeared with their blood. In order to break the curses and weaken Kaven, they have to destroy his bracelets and release all the people (and their magic) from his control. Bastian explains why he traveled to Arida to ask for King Audric’s help--but was ultimately refused. Amora is shocked to find out that her father knew previously that Kaven was practicing soul magic! Instead of helping the people of Zudoh, he banished them to suffer under Kaven’s cruelty.
After Amora starts feeling better again, she returns to the deck to discuss the attack with the crew and clears up the air on who really saved Vataea from the Lusca… our hero, Ferrick! A thank you kiss from Vataea, however, has Ferrick needing medical attention.
The crew continues to discuss their plan of attack on Zudoh and how they’ll fight. But Amora needs a better weapon -- a legendary one. And so, she creates a deadly dagger from the tentacle hook she sliced off from the poisonous Lusca. Bastian, ever curious, comes to watch her craft this menacing knife and… well let’s just say nothing gets these two in the mood like danger. FINALLY! A STEAMY KISS! A CONFESSION OF FEELINGS! WE ARE LIVING FOR THIS SPICY HOOKUP!
Finally, the crew arrives at Zudoh. Vataea jumps in to lead the ship (through absolutely rancid water, mind you) and Amora is entrusted to sail the Keel Haul through some jagged rocks into a cavern on a nearby off-shore island. Knowing what we know now about Bastian’s half of his soul being in the ship, we can’t help but get a little teary-eyed at the trust he’s placing in Amora. Surprise! Surprise! The curse surrounding Zudoh is actually also a plague and they won’t be able to cross through it without immediately dying. Their only choice… is to go under. Thankfully, they have the fiercest mermaid ever on their side! So down into the frigid waters they go. Vataea kisses them each one by one and gives them a little bit of mermaid magic to be able to breathe and see underwater. Um, hello Vataea? Where can we sign up please?
But there’s no time to waste! They can only be under for a short time with Vataea’s magic, so they kick and swim but it’s just not fast enough. That is, until our land-legged trio hitch a ride on the electric blue ZAPA RAYS! Seriously, we could not be more jealous of them flying along the ocean floor on these gentle giants. It’s simply not fair. But just as we think the crew is about to make it to Zudoh with time officially running out, Vataea realizes that the curse actually extends across the top of the ocean, all the way to the shoreline. Yeah, a MAJOR problem if they can’t surface on the beach without going through the curse!!! Ferrick and Amora start choking on water, running out of the remaining air in their lungs. Are they gonna die here, so close to salvation???  However, as the water starts pouring into their bodies, it vanishes just as quickly. Vataea has sung the sea into an air pocket surrounding all four of them on the ocean floor! They crawl together to the shore, protected from going through the cursed water by Vataea’s smart and savvy problem-solving. Not to mention her incredible mermaid powers which saved them all from drowning. (Can you tell we LOVE HER?!) After the excitement wears off, the crew realizes how close to death they were, along with how close they’re all becoming. GROUP HUG EVERYONE!

Day 6: January 31th Chapters 26-30

Welcome to Zudoh! It’s cold. It’s gray. But luckily, it’s deserted! After having narrowly avoided that curse, the crew is a little shaken but they begin to explore the island, looking for a way to Kaven. They discover two spunky kids spying in a nearby cave, who decide to bring our shivering crew to their camp through a secret passageway. On the way, Bastian tries to tell Amora something… but doesn’t finish. Hmm… we wonder what it could be??? Things are a little TENSE when they exit the caves. They’re immediately surrounded by people holding weapons and Zale, the leader of this small community that has gone undetected by Kaven and his minions. Zale allows them into the camp and begins to show them around: the white birch houses, the incredible solar panels, the water filtration system, the folks practicing multiple magics…
Excuse us!!!!  MULTIPLE. MAGICS. Of course, Amora is shooketh to her core. Does this lady not know about the laws? Or the damage it can cause? The whole reason the Montara family exists? To protect the people from this danger??? But, as Zale points out to Amora: A) Um, your father literally banished us, what were we supposed to do without access to other islands/magics? and B) Look, everyone is absolutely healthy and fine!!! Amora cannot believe her eyes, but there’s no denying that this community has thrived.  They’re building a new ship to escape Zudoh because King Audric literally burned the entire island’s ships years before, trapping them. Kaven’s following are all corrupted after practicing his cursed soul magic. Amora makes a vow to destroy Kaven and restore the kingdom. Yas, Queen! But seriously, what is up with Bastian??? Well, the secret is finally spilled from his drunken lips that Kaven is none other than his BROTHER!!! That’s why everyone has been looking at him suspiciously and he’s been so wigged out since stepping foot on the island. Bastian is apologetic and ashamed. Amora reminds him that they are not the mistakes of their families AKA her dad and they still have the power to make things better.  *Insert steamy hookup session here*
The next day the crew journeys through the birch forest in search of Kaven, but as they’re walking Amora stumbles into another curse—this time, though, it shows her worst fear. She sees a trickster fox, in the guise of her father. A monster.  After Bastian shakes her back to reality, they venture on but get ambushed by a group of Kaven’s followers. Although Amora tries to reason with them, she uses her soul magic to see they have no intention of letting her crew leave alive. She pulls out her Lusca blade, newly minted “Rukan,” and strikes. And yes, she goes full High Animancer on them!! But before she can destroy them all, the villain we’ve been waiting for enters the scene. He leads the four of them to a nearby cave and Amora goes in to discover… CATO’S BLADE. Thrown back into a memory of Sira, Cato’s partner and the first person to discover soul magic, Sira reveals that it was Cato's paranoid about not being able to practice more than one magic (unlike the rest of the community) that corrupted his soul magic. And secretly he murdered other people to scare folks into thinking they were dying from using multiple magics. Cato forced Sira to use cursed soul magic to separate everyone’s souls, taking away all but one of their powers. Everyone thought he was their savior and so made him King. But as it turns out, he was just a petty, jealous, and power-hungry little man! So Sira cursed him as her final act of vengeance so that every time any of his descendants used soul magic, they’d be consumed from the inside out. Again, her father knew all of this. Kaven is intent on sacrificing Amora’s father in order to spread his blood across the lands, in the hopes that expanding the curse across a large area will break it and restore soul magic to everyone. Amora is determined to stop him and protect her father but some of her Aridian guards like Casem’s dad won't let that go down! It’s officially a coup! The fight breaks out and it’s Amora vs. Kaven and she prepares to use soul magic on Kaven, but he’s CURSED his OWN blood!! So now Amora is fighting visions AND Kaven at the same time. Thankfully she’s a badass and stabs him with Rukan. But even so, Kaven sliced Amora so now he has HER blood and curses her instead!  As they flee the danger, they make it to the beach as she passes out… and realizes her magic is gone.

Day 7: February 1st Chapters 31-end

We are REELING from what just happened in the last chapter. And clearly, so is Amora!!!!! No magic??? Where is half her soul??? And then Bastian comes in and has the audacity to tell her he got his magic back, that he’s no longer cursed? Don’t get us wrong we’re so happy for him. But what about Amora!!!!! Ferrick tries to remind her of who she is, but Amora is just. Not. Having. It.  She later ends up talking with Casem, who tells her that her people were originally going to give her a second chance back on Arida before she ran away. So, she technically didn’t need to run away that night. Ugh. Amora is deep in her pity party, but luckily Bastian has some experience in this particular arena and offers her some wisdom from his own shame about abandoning Zudoh. As the Keel Haul gets within sight of Arida, they stop a storm over Arida which actually turns out to be Kaven’s army and gun smoke, and oh no, they’re TOO LATE! Vataea jumps into action, swimming to the shore to lure enemy soldiers into the water, drowning them. It’s chaos, everywhere. Amora leaps onto the shore just in time to see her Aunt Kalea practice soul magic for the first time, which ignites the Montara curse in her blood. It’s not good. But Amora fights on, taking enemies down one by one, ruthless and unapologetic and she makes her way up to the castle. On her way through, she trips and shatters her kneecap and also gets stabbed in the shoulder by a cursed knife. Luckily, Bastian is there to carve it out of her numbing shoulder.  Finally, in the castle, Amora finds her mother and Mira, prepared to fight intruders with elemental magic but they encourage her to continue on to save King Audric. And when they make it to the throne room, everything is literally on fire. Amora looks to end Kaven, but he’s already cursed her father’s soul to Kaven’s own body… meaning that killing Kaven would ultimately destroy her father’s soul. Bastian takes the lead and tells Amora to get her father out of the room, while he takes on Kaven. Amora rushes to her father, realizing that he can’t fight against Kaven. She finally gets to confront him for his crimes. Her father explains that he was a fearful king, taught by his own father to rule from a distance. He admits he was cowardly. Amora, of course, is enraged and hurt at his deception but before she has time to process it, her father apologizes, expresses his everlasting love for his family. With those final thoughts, he plunges a blade into his stomach, sacrificing him so that Amora can kill Kaven.

And before Amora can do anything, Kaven is gloating in her father’s death beside her. She sees Bastian out of the corner of her eye picking up… a bone… and coating it in his brother’s blood… which is oddly like, oh I don’t know SOUL MAGIC?

Then, suddenly, Bastian crumbles under the pain and so does Amora because he’s A) triggered the Montara curse by using soul magic and B) HALF OF HER SOUL IS IN HIM! Kaven cursed her blood from the dagger wound to Bastian’s hair back in Zudoh and now Amora can’t feel complete without him because he has her magic and half her soul!!!

Amora takes her revenge swiftly. She slices Kaven with Rukan and plunges both blades into chest, just as Ferrick comes up behind and chops off Kaven’s sword arm.

After everything has settled down, Amora wonders if she’s up to the task ahead of her. She’s had to lie about everything—her magic, her father, all of it. And she wonders if her connection with Bastian is even real anymore. How can it be? When she is bonded to him without choice?

Amora makes the promise to one day tell the truth of the Montara’s curse, but they need someone to lead them in the meantime. But for now, she’s reinstating the right to practice multiple magics in the kingdom and taking the throne to save her people. As Queen Amora Montara, High Animancer.

What a whirlwind of events! We can't wait to see what's next for Amora, Bastian, and the rest of the crew in All the Tides of Fate on sale February 2, 2021.
