Which Character From Into the Crooked Place Are You?

Into the Crooked Place is finally here!

As HUGE fans of To Kill a Kingdom, we have been counting down the days to the arrival of Alexandra Christo's next fantasy novel. The best part? Into the Crooked Place is book one in a DUOLOGY! That's right, we get TWO BOOKS set in Creije, a dark and gritty new world packed with magic, con artists, gangsters, fighters, and so, so much more. So now is the time to meet, self-identify, ad completely fall in love with the four incredible protagonists of this perfectly shiny new book.

Well, what are you waiting for? Take the quiz and find out if you're most like Tavia, Wesley, Karam, or Saxony!

Possible answers:

Tavia Syn
After being orphaned on the streets of Creije, Tavia is recruited to sell dark magic for the Kingpin. She may not like the gig, but if she’s going to do something then she might as well be great at it, which is why she’s the best busker in Creije and someone you don’t want to let near your pockets. Or your purse. Or anything of value. Tavia prides herself on her ability to perform magic tricks and win over a crowd. Her sense of humor is as stark as her lipstick, and there isn’t much she won’t poke fun at (especially if it’s at Wesley’s expense). She might find it hard to trust people (see: knuckle dusters and many hidden knives), but her friends are her family and there’s nothing she wouldn’t do for them. Including saving the world, apparently.

Wesley Thornton Walcott
Yes, you do need to say his full name. No, he doesn’t really give a damn what yours is.

Wesley became the youngest underboss in history at just sixteen and has been controlling the black magic trade of Creije ever since. He’s the Kingpin’s favourite, but Wesley is far more concerned with good suits and bad magic than the old man’s opinion. Well, most days. There are a lot of things Wesley has: powerful charms, spies in every corner, a collection of fantastic bowties and arguably the best puns in Creije. But he doesn’t have friends. You can’t have friends when you’re an underboss. Friends get you killed (and they get themselves killed too). Creije is Wesley’s home and there’s nothing he loves more than that city, so he’ll do anything to protect it. Including saving the rest of the world too, apparently.

Karam Talwar
Karam fled the holy realm of Wrenyal and made her way to Creije as a child, determined to be a fighter in the coming wars. Her family might have abandoned her for the choice, but she abandoned them straight back. Karam has made a name for herself quicker than most by guarding the crooks of the city (in particular, Wesley Thornton Walcott) and fighting in the underrealm rings. She’d prefer the matches not to be to the death, but you can’t trust anyone in Creije and it’s better to kill than be killed. She’s the type of person with a penchant for punching first and forgetting to ask questions later, especially if the person is a busker with a big mouth. But if you’re a certain dark-haired waitress with a knack for trouble, Karam might just show you her softer side (it’s hiding beneath the glare). Karam will do anything for Saxony and to honour the sacred legacy of her grandparents. Including saving the world, apparently.

Saxony Akintola
Saxony spends most of her days as a waitress at the Crook, cleaning up after magic addicts and morons. She tends to go by ‘Brandy’ there because keeping people out of your business is always handy. Especially when you have as many secrets as she does. Saxony’s not afraid to speak her mind or tell you when you’re being an idiot. Which, if you live in Creije, you probably are. Still, the city isn’t all bad. After all it’s got Karam (and nothing’s all bad when Karam is near). Saxony might even like living there, if it wasn’t for the magic trade. And that’s not because she hates magic. Magic keeps the realms turning. What Saxony does hate is the Kingpin and his favorite underboss. After all, it’s their fault her family was torn apart. It’s their fault that her people lost everything and she’ll do whatever it takes to get her revenge.

Into the Crooked Place by Alexandra Christo

Into the Crooked Place begins a gritty two-book YA fantasy series from Alexandra Christo, the author of To Kill a Kingdom.

The streets of Creije are for the deadly and the dreamers, and four crooks in particular know just how much magic they need up their sleeve to survive.

Tavia, a busker ready to pack up her dark-magic wares and turn her back on Creije for good. She’ll do anything to put her crimes behind her.

Wesley, the closest thing Creije has to a gangster. After growing up on streets hungry enough to swallow the weak whole, he won’t stop until he has brought the entire realm to kneel before him.

Karam, a warrior who spends her days watching over the city’s worst criminals and her nights in the fighting rings, making a deadly name for herself.

And Saxony, a resistance fighter hiding from the very people who destroyed her family, and willing to do whatever it takes to get her revenge.

Everything in their lives is going to plan, until Tavia makes a crucial mistake: she delivers a vial of dark magic—a weapon she didn’t know she had—to someone she cares about, sparking the greatest conflict in decades. Now these four magical outsiders must come together to save their home and the world, before it’s too late. But with enemies at all sides, they can trust nobody. Least of all each other.
